The Blog
Thanks for checking out the site. In moving to the Twin Cities, I found an amazing amount of music and culture. But, there wasn’t really a great way to keep track of everything going on. Hopefully, this site will be a central place to track and discuss the many musical and artistic events from the many cultures that make up the Twin Cities.
The Writer
While studying abroad in the Netherlands and hanging out with friends from Morocco, I was introduced to Rai music and fell in love with the many of the many different types of music that dot the landscape of North Africa. Oddly enough, it was once again while being abroad in Germany that I was exposed to salsa and meringue music and dance through several Brazilian friends. They were always saying, “…in Brasil kann man immer tanzen.” And with the right Brazilian music and drinks, they were right anyone would want to dance.
I have always had a love for writing regardless of whether in English or German while journaling or even at work in PR. So the blog really combines my three loves exploring international cultures, writing, and music. It took the fertile grounds of the Twin Cities, where I can easily lose myself in many cultures by visiting a Palestinian grocery store, one of the many Somali malls, or a Ukrainian butcher, to get started.

I’m particularly interested in the various African music scenes (Nigeria, Somalia, Mali, Congo, Liberia, Tanzania, Algeria, or Senegal), I’d be interested in speaking with anyone knowledgeable about specific scenes in these countries as well as speaking with musicians from abroad who have settled here. I also have a great love for roots music and Red House Records.
