When I first started Minneapolis World Beat, one of the concerts I posted on the calendar for May was José González, who will be playing at the Cedar this Friday night (May 4th). I came across a posting from another Minneapolis blogger on the concert, and found that fairly remarkable. From NoEvilTwin:
“Who’s José González? Well, you obviously didn’t click on the link above, otherwise you would know by know. I’ll try and summarize. José González was born in Sweden to Argentinian parents. He plays a classical meets flamenco style of guitar that combines with his voice to create a quiet, mellow sound that’s entirely his own.
What surprised me in reading up about José González is that he’s very popular in Europe. His only LP, Veneer, has reached gold status worldwide. He records all of his songs at home, just him and his guitar.”
I heard from the Cedar house manager running the Frigg show that this will be an excellent concert.
